'sharing is caring' - NB: THIS EVENT WILL RETURN IN SPRING 2012!!
The Sumner FoodSwap is a fortnightly community gathering. We love it, because its fun meeting other local foodies in the area, you generally leave with something different and there is often a BBQ going.
The Great Sumner Plum Drive
Gear up and get prepared for the Great Sumner Plum Drive in 2013.
If you have a plum tree or have spotted a plum tree make a mental note and either let us know or come along to the Sumner Food Swap to share the knowledge.

Gardening Projects
Sumner-van Asch Community Garden
The Sumner Local Food Group has negotiated common access to the 'Horticultural Area' within their grounds.
This area is set up for gardening and has been used by staff and students of van Asch in the past. Recently there has been no-one to look after it, so the local community has negotiated terms with the Board of Trustees and staff at van Asch to inject some energy.
Galilee Community Garden
This is a new project looking for interested people to help get it started.

The Food Bill - Important Message
This Bill potentially affects the Sumner Local Food Group. In a nutshell, if the new Food Bill is passed then 'unexempted' sharing and trading of homegrown food would be a criminal offence. This sounds ridiculous, but it is true. Read more ...

Donations
If you are feeling like sharing then you can donate to this group . Gifts such as resources suitable for community gardening activities are also very welcome. The aim is to develop a common resources pool for all community groups to use.

We have received two monetary donations from Waikanae Beach Garden Group (Kapiti Coast) and an overseas donor (Chris and Eric in the UK) totally $150. A big thank you to them all and quite touching to know that people are interested in our efforts.
